Early engagement marries the needs of the client with technology
Cordless was pleased to join the latest AV Magazine round table for a thought-provoking discussion alongside senior representatives from the fields of architecture, project management, development and AV consultancy.
Stephen Barker, Director Multimedia Engineering at Cordless sat with industry colleagues and peers to discuss the timing of bringing AV Consultants into a construction project based on a variety of dependencies, including the RIBA stages.
During the discussion Stephen explained that whilst technology has moved from being a screen on a wall with a projector on a table to becoming part of the building fabric; strategic thinking about the importance of workplace technology is still often not given the attention it deserves.
Stephen elaborates: “We are talking to architects who clearly understand that technology is part of delivering a successful workspace for the client. However, some clients don’t see this, so they may not get us on board the project until RIBA stage three, when some of the key design decisions are already set in stone. This is really too late. In this instance, Consultants can still help, but we start at a disadvantage with limited potential, because we have not had the opportunity to play a bigger role in strategy from the beginning.”
Stephen continues: “Sometimes, AV Consultants like Cordless are involved in projects very early, when it’s going to be four or more years before the building is built. This is great and a win-win scenario for the client and the professional team. As technology change happens fast, we can help align both the client’s needs and the changes occurring in the technology market. Cordless can make sure that all suitable alternatives can be considered as the project progresses, because quite literally, in the tech world, anything can happen!”
