Cordless features in panel video at BVE 2016 discussing the future of AV. Host Clive Couldwell asks the panel about the future of AV and delivering seamless AV IT Solutions.
Cordless MD, Nigel Miller, talks about the crossover between IT, AV and Smart Buildings. Nigel explains that we are moving away from an era of component parts, to delivering an outcome for people and their business. In the future, we'll see increasing levels of wired and wireless IT and AV solutions that are more intuitive - with almost invisible technology, so that you are able to book a meeting room with a video conference and when you move into the room, the room knows you've arrived, the call is already set up and the lights are to your preference. We're starting to see those sorts of things happening via the increasing overlap between SMART buildings, AV and IT.
We are on the cusp of the IoT, but some of the approach has still got to change. In order implement such intelligence, it needs to be in new builds or new building fit-outs, because the implementation is too disruptive to do it in an existing BAU environment. Then within a new building, the solution needs to be properly thought through and programmed in correctly. IT is only just starting to get there. AV is in a situation where people say: “I need 20 meeting rooms” and then further down the path: “let's have some AV in those rooms.” It should be the other way around: that is, AV informing how many meeting rooms you need and what sort of space you need.
