Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at Cordless? Beverley Eggleton gives an account of a day shadowing Senior Consultant and Project Manager Richard Sharkey…
Our day starts at Cordless HQ. We chat about an upcoming event that is being planned by Cordless sister company Unwired, PROPTECH. The event is to discuss the future of real estate and technology. We discuss how Cordless could support it.
Next we have an internal meeting with the Cordless Commercial Director about a post project care plan offering for our clients that will help them with their workplace technology use during the transition to BAU following the day 1 ‘go live’ of a large relocation or refurbishment project. Often project programmes are compressed towards the end of a move and by providing ongoing technology advice and guidance, Cordless will be able to help make sure that the original workplace tech objectives have not been compromised, helping the organisation to allocate sufficient resource to get the best from its new technology.
Then, it’s onto client meetings. Richard is working on 4 largescale workplace projects that are in flight at the moment, and today, I find out about 3 of these.
Firstly, a leading international mining group has engaged Cordless to act as IT, AV and Security Consultants on a workplace fit-out project to refurbish its London HQ workplace to deliver best value and user experience whilst reducing floor space. This project is now at RIBA phase 4 and due to complete in April. We dial into a meeting with the design team. This week the team is discussing the project programme and the implications of change. Cordless advises the client to allow enough time for decommissioning of the existing technology towards the end of the project!
Next we head out of Cordless HQ to a London Stock Exchange that is relocating across the City with the objective of providing an inspirational new and collaborative workplace. Richard takes me on a tour of the site, whilst he does his weekly walk around and inspection of the technology that has been installed so far. It’s amazing to see all of the work that goes on behind the scenes to bring a workplace to life. It’s busy! There is a great sense of community on this building site, from personalised PPE and positive messaging on the walls of the meeting room and corridors, through to the availability of recycling bins, whilst people play table tennis in a dedicated area.
Richard and I are joined in the project room by Cordless Director of Multimedia Mike Halliday to attend a meeting with the technology suppliers and integrators on this project. Current progress of the installation is discussed, along with issue resolution. The discussion moves from the lighting controls, through to cabling, witnessing and training. Cordless is working hard to make sure the client objectives are achieved and delivered on time and to budget.
It’s getting dark by the time Richard and I head to the final client meeting of the day, where Cordless is providing IT and AV Consultancy and Project Management for the refurbishment of a London office of a multinational law firm. This is a noisy building site, with lots of hustle and bustle under task lighting.
Cordless joins the rest of the design team in a temporary meeting room. A whole host of disciplines are covered in this session and Cordless comments on the selection of meeting room technology. The client needs to review options that work in combination with the choice of furniture. The team talks about meeting room booking, cabling route and installation and the development of a Corporate App.
After this meeting, all that is left for me to do is thank Richard and bid him farewell as he heads off to his home office to start the follow up work from all the meetings we’ve had today.
The day was a massive insight into how hands-on our Consultants get for our clients and the number of different people we speak to across a business during the course of our work.
Thanks to Richard and our clients for having me for the day and I look forward to seeing the finished projects!
